Bill joined The WJF Institute in 2006 as an instructor for the Client Development and Relationship Management workshop.  Bill has over 15 years of experience working in-house and with law firms in Austin and Houston, providing legal counsel to a wide variety of companies and investors, in a variety of corporate matters.

Currently, Bill practices with Phillips & Reiter, PLLC, a law firm providing outsourced general counsel services.  Prior to joining Phillips & Reiter in 2005, Bill was with Digital Lifestyles where he was Vice President, General counsel and Corporate Secretary of the Austin-based designer, manufacturer and distributor of personal computers.  While at Digital Lifestyles, Bill was responsible for all legal aspects of the company’s operation, including contract drafting and review, filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, litigation management and financing transactions.  He was also responsible for the company’s Human Resources function.

Bill was of counsel in the corporate Securities Section of the Austin office of Haynes and Boone, LLP from 2003 to 2004.  Prior to that, he spent almost seven years with the Corporate Securities Section of the Austin office of Hughes & Luce, LLP, five years as partner. 

Bill received his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Southern Methodist School of Law in 1989, where he served on the Southwestern Law Journal (now the SMU Law Review) and was awarded membership in the Order of the Coif.  He received his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984 and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, in 1981. He is admitted to practice in Texas.
